Explore Helsinki and experience the wild north
Meet majestic creatures in the fascinating Finnish forests on a weeklong observing trip that starts from Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and continues to the southeastern Finland, where the spectacular Imatrankoski Rapids and the city of Imatra rub shoulders with the Russian border. The journey continues to the Nurmes region in the province of North Karelia in the eastern part of Finland. The guests will stay at traditional Karelian style houses, the holiday resort is on the shore of the magnificent Lake Pielinen.
Birds and beavers
Our guides will give practical and interesting information about the nature and the area, and check your equipment and clothing. The first tour concentrates on observing arctic bird species, and during the day you will get a chance to enjoy a picnic lunch by the camp fire. In the late afternoon we will go observing the beaver, and in the evening we will gather to a forest cabin for dinner and sauna.
Meet the king of the forest
Next day begins with a two-hour canoeing trip, which includes also fishing. After a hike in the nearby forest we pack our gear for bear observation tour. The guide takes you to a bear observation cabin, where you must wait patiently for ‘the king of the forest’ to arrive, even a wolverine might show up. After a surely exciting night, we will return to the resort, have breakfast and enjoy the soothing and rejuvenating effects of the spa and saunas, as well as enjoy the stunning scenery across the surrounding lakes.

Next day you will have thrilling fun, when we run Ruunaa’s raging rapids in a traditional wooden boat. At the rapids, an experienced river guide gives you the equipment and takes you through the old timber floating route. After a cozy dinner you’ll surely get a goodnight’s sleep in a traditional log cabin.
